AIOU removes GAT test condition for MPhil and PhD admissions

Islamabad, The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) (www.aiou.edu.pk) has removed the condition of Graduate Assessment Test (GAT) (www.nts.org.pk) for admission in MPhil and PhD programs after the decision of Lahore High Court and notification of Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The decision has been taken under the supervision of Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Ali Asghar Chishti and it will be implemented from the Autumn Semester 2014.
Now with these amendments students could get admission in MPhil and PhD level programs without any requirement of GAT (General and Subject) test of National Testing Service (NTS).

“The AIOU concerned department will conduct entry test for admissions in these programs according to the requirement of HEC (www.hec.gov.pk) and rules and conditions will be applied by the university’s respective department” AIOU Director Admissions Syed Zia-ul-Hasnain Naqvi said.

AIOU provide admission in PhD programs in Islamic Studies (Gen), Islamic Studies (Quran & Tafseer), Chemistry, Iqbal Studies, Pakistani Languages & Literature, Shari’ah, Urdu and Mass Communication while at M.Phil level the admissions are provided in the different subjects including Islamic Studies, Quran & Tafseer, Arabic, Chemistry, Community Health and Nutrition, Gender & Women Studies, M.Com (Accounting & Finance).

he admissions in these programs will be opened from August 1, 2014. Moreover, the university has also introduced PhD in Mass Communication from the coming semester. The university is also going to introduce Master of Law (LLM) program from next semester which aims to facilitate practicing lawyers to enhance their skills.
